Insecure: for that PING option I liked the idea that is "checking" normal NETMAIL path. Is that need to send it directly rather rare? FREQ (FILES, etc.) is working since a while (also from other systems), but then (usualy) NETMAILs are always going through my uplink.

Trace: considering above, only my points can have advantage from trace then.

Alas, *****://******.*****/huskyproject/hpt/blob/master/misc/pong.pl uses much more primitive check... however, it also works.

Oh c'mon... In the days of Fido over IP that is needlessly restrictive. For compressed mail there is the risk of a mail bomb, but there is no comparable risk for uncompressed *.pkt. The risk of automatically processing uncompressed netmail is almost zero. In the past there was the "imposing undue cost on others" argument. But that is no longer an issue except for the rare POTs only system.

My system happyly processes uncompressed netmail from the unsecure inbound. No restrictions.

I am just checking with my uplink (regarding my system, I would also rather enable this unsecure tossing). In worst case, surprise traffic will go through him (I am affraid).

Mailbombs. Yes, it was nice time ;-)

(I saw it once, one system was calling in some cycles during non MO - and then after few tries to inform Sysop/CoSysop - got prepared some package... ;-)

(But if I think about that, it is always possible to fill disc with unpacked piece from fileecho, etc... Just limits are different these days...)

Subj:Nlcheck report
A discussion elsewhere brought my attention to nodes who's
only contact information is EMA:<e-mail address>.
The conclusion of the discussion was that such nodes are
de facto unconnectable because the e-mail protocol is unknown.

As an experiment I have adapted the configuration of NlCheck
so that these nodes are now included in the report. I did not
realize there are that many...
